September 7th
So great News We moved Szilvi's bap date up to september 26th!!!!! and she is so ready to be baptized its sweet. So this week we got Elder Forbes in our companionship, its been sweet, hes a funny kid and he really helps with everything. So ya we met with those guys again that i was telling you about last week and we gave them a book of mormon. They were pretty interested so i think it will go good.
This week i went on splits with the Zone leaders and Mcrae and i went to this little city outside of pest to go tracting. Man that was fun, there are some funny people here in Hungary. WE taught a few people about the REStoration, it was tight. WE were outside for about 5hrs that day just tracting, so it was a pretty tiring day.
Well this week was pretty good, we missed getting mission standard by one program, but there was some good stuff that happened this week!!!! Thanks for everything! I love you guys!

Dang I remember Waverunner Football that was some good times, also moon rock, hahah thats a good name! Wow so you guys seemed to have alot of fun this week! Im glad, Well i also had alot of fun this week! i decided to look up these people that Mansell and i Found while tracting one day, and we ended up teaching like 15 people in about 3hrs, set up some return appointments and im am really excited to go teach them now. Haha so this one guy i looked up his name is Zoli, and his freinds were over just hanging out and they all were really interested in the Joseph smith story! They were Romanians, gypsy, but cool people. Haha one of the guys Loves the Utah Jazz and praises Darren Williams, hmmmm sounds like reed! But they are way funny and its going to be sweet i hope that they really do want to learn about the gosple.
Also this week we had zone Conference, which was way awesome! I learned so much from it, how to become a better missionary and just person. The spirit was so strong in there that President baughman couldnt even start his final remarks to us so he just bore his testimony and talked to us about how to cherish our missions. Man i Never want to leave, ive had some really scary nightmares about going home and i have to wake up and walk around the apartment for about 10min to convince myself that i am still on my mission and that im not going home yet. Haha i need to stop eating late at night!
Oh so we made a goal this transfer to acheive misison standard once and Super Standard once, and last week we got Super standard!!! actually we almost doubled superstandeard but wow it was so awesome to see the drive and work we put into getting that goal and how much work we did last week. I hope we can keep it up!
So i got the Packages, Thanks Mom!!!! and if anyone else chipped in thanks. But no i havn't opened the presents yet there sitting on the side of my bed right now. Oh So this thursday we will be getting Elder Forbes in our companionship because he is finished with being a secretary. He is way awesome so i am excited for that!!!!!
well this is gettting pretty long and were going to a castle today i think so i will try and get some pictures!
I love you guys a ton and thanks for everything. Especially the pictures!

Ohh Cool So the waverunners are Done!!! thats good to know how do they run? WEll this week was way awesome!!!! THe most Tiring week of my mission so far though, WE had tons of programs and the best of all is that we put 2 investigators on Bap Date!!!! The First ones of my mission!!!! man its so cool to know that they are really wanting to progress and come closer to Christ. So Szilvi is on for november 21, but hopefully alot sooner, and then Rozsika Néni is on for Dec. 19. Wow its so exciting!!!
So did you give her my Address? haha oh and make sure when you give my address its the mission home address. THe Hajnoczy Budapest one. wow Jordann is going that is so good to hear, he's an awesome kid. Wow wade is getting home i remember Carla asking me to write him but i never did, sorry, but now hes going to be home so tell him hi from me and i think that will count.
Ya this last week has been really tough though, but there is a really good example that has been in my mind alot lately. REally tall pine trees high up in the Mountains are always exposed to strong winds so their roots and trunks are very strong. but trees that are just down on the valley floor never have wind like that so they are not as strong. But the point is that the more things beat at you or the more trials that come your way, the stronger you become. So its a good thing to have hard times, its what builds us up. WEll family i love all you guys and hope your week is great and heres a good scripture for the week, Helaman 5:12!

August 10th
Well this was a crazy week Monday and Tuesday Mansell and i planned tons of programs It was awesome. Man that kid worked so hard to the very end. His parents came to pick him up and they toured the country all last week. And they came to some of the programs with us, so he was even working then! Dang thats the hardest thing i really have had to do on my mission is watch him go home. He was so awesome great example to me too!
Im glad you remembered the Gassers homecoming because i forgot to remind you of it last week. Man they were such great leaders for this misison, im really missing them, BUT the Baughmans are awesome too. A different style leadership but he has really brought alot to this mission. there pretty funny people too! So we had some good lessons this week, Éva, one of our investigators finally came to church yesturday! she didnt quite agree with everything but i know that she felt the spirit so were hoping that it will progress. Also Szilvi and her son came again and they are really liking it. Hopefully this week we will be able to put them on Bap-date.
I have a ton of work ahead of me now, im excited for it because i am really hoping to learn alot out of this next transfer, but its going to be pretty tough. I am already tired as crap mentaly, physically, and spritually, but im really making it a goal this transfer to study the scriptures alittle more in depth so that i can re-fill my "Virtue Bucket" daily.
On Saturday we were teaching Éva, her and my companion were going all over the place and she was just getting confused and fighting things that we were teaching and the spirit wasnt there, it was really tough because i could tell she wanted to know really what was true but the lesson was bouncing around so much that we couldnt teach. So at the very end I just bore a VERY simple testimony, it was cool because when i opened my mouth the whole room changed and the spirit hit every one really hard. I told her that there is only one way to know if something is true or not and that is to ask God. Then after that we were able to end the lesson Formally and we said a prayer then asked her to come to church and she said No, but we asked her if thats really what she was feeling right then and then she went really sober and said that she would but that we would have to meet her at the metro stop. It was a pretty neat experience i hope that she can remember how she felt when the spirit hit her.
Other than that im still working out every morning and eating pretty good! Ohhh wow so I found this little fruit shop at our metro stop and they had these peaches in there that are about the size of a softball and they were perfectly ripe!!!! ohh they were so good! Well I love all you guys and hope that this next week will go well for you all.

Wow so this morning We got transfer calls, Dang where did this transfer go? We've had so many programs lately that all were doing is planning and then teaching its really tiring but were starting to see some success out of it. Also we had a goal this week to talk to 2000 people as a district. Wow we almost made it but its been really rewarding, knowing that the only way to achieve the goal was to always be talking to EVERYONE you see. We streeted everywhere, haha Funny story real quick so i have always wanted to street a guy on a bike, so the other day there was this guy who looked happy, he had a smile on his face (that is very rare in Hungary) and he was riding his bike kinda fast and he thought i was going to move for him but i just stood there, Steadfast and Immovable :D, and i just gave him a huge smile and starred at him till he stopped. I started talking to him and he was so astonished that i stopped him on his bike, that he listened to my message. I ended up getting a find from him and we talked alittle more, it was fun we got to know each other pretty good. But that was fun now im so pumped to stop everyone on a bike, maybe ill step it up and stop somebody on a motorcycle next!
Well last monday we went and just sight saw the Buda Castle Wow that is an amazing place ill send pictures next week, also we went to the Baszilica, its like the Second largest one in the World it was pretty neat. Ok so on Thursday we went to a members house to eat and they had these red peppers that are supposedly really hot. They dared me to put them in my soup so i broke them up and put them in and ate it. they were expecting me to have a weird reaction but they werent that hot. But heres the bad part, so my contacts were bugging me that day so i rubbed both my eyes right after that and then realized that the Pepper was on my fingers. Dang that hurt So bad. I took almost 30min for it to stop hurting. Bu ti can still see so thats ghood.
Well this week has been good, Mansell is leaving again, but oh yeah im am getting Elder Huggard as my new companion hes a pretty funny kid i know him from zone confrences in Debrecen so im am excited about this next transfer.
Thanks everyone for your prayers, in know i say that all the time but i can really feel them its awesome!!!! thanks I love you all a ton!

Pictures
Pictures will be coming I am having a hard time uploading them to the blog so stay tuned. Sorry it has taken me so long to post. Blakes blog has just had problems or something. Stay Tuned..
July 13, 2009
Ya this past week went by really fast. We went on splits this week and it was me and Peugnet ,we were in the MTC together, And we tought this lady but we both are still learning this language and didnt quite understand everything but it was way fun. And that lady actually said the closing prayer at our program. The Elders have been meeting with her for about 4 months now and she has never said a prayer while they were there. And she finally did. it was pretty cool. Church was good this week we had alot of people there, and some really good speakers.
So the other night we were just chilin and then this car alarm started going off and about 5 min later it was still going so we went to the window to look and see where it was coming from, and all of a suddon we see this thing fly out of the window below us. haha these drunk people were throwing little things of Yogurt out the window and trying to hit the roof across the street but they we so drunk they couldnt even make it across the street. It was pretty interesting to watch. So thats whats new here drunk people throwing yogurt out the window.
Mom thats way cool that your friend at work is interested in the church. Thats so cool. i hope that goes well. its so awesome the power you can feel when you read the book of mormon. All of our investigators and less actives, that were teaching, i can tell when they read the book of mormon because there week went alot better and they are alot happier and have questions.
I love you guys and hope life is going good for yall.

Well family this week has been awesome! It was really hard to say goodbuy to debrecen, and especially Szabó and the District. But new place, Newish companions and tons of people. Wow this place is huge sorry the pictures are small or blury but im using an old computer and its weird to use so i don't know how to do it right. But hey so we live on the 11th floor and this is the veiw from my bedroom window you can see the Duna, Parliment, Fishermans Bastion, and lots more but ya its really neat. Ha so yesterday we were streeting people down by the Duna and its been raining like crazy here, and the Duna is so full that there is this road that goes down by the shore and its almost 3ft under water, so the duna is about 6'-7' overflowing, and the Duna isn't a small river. So thats alot of rain.
Well Mansell i now on this P-90X Diet workout thing and hes got me doing it too :) haha talk to reed about it he'll know about it. Basically its a really tough workout and eating diet but it makes you really strong. We did Yoga the other day and i dont think ive been more tired and sore in my life. Ha its way fun though.
Alright so pest is HUGE but we had English Class on thursday and we taught the Profi Expert class and there is this old guy named Frank and he is one funny old man. He kept trying to stump me on what engine parts were and how to build engines haha It was really random but i knew all the answers and i stumped him twice but, we ended up talking to him after because he was, Amazed by me, about the church and he didn't come to church but were working on him.
Yesterday was awesome we were streeting and i couldn't get any body to really listen to me, then Mansell told me that i just need to bear a simple testimony. Dang it worked, i saw these 2 guys, on separate occasions, and the first kid was about 18 ands moking but i just told him that i know that this messge is true, and he said that he wants to meet! Then this other guy that was about 22, he wants to meet now just becuase i told him that i know thta it is true. Thats it. Ahhh it was so awesome.
Well being in a threesome is really different alittle more rushed but wow its so fun. I learn alot more from the both of them, Lynn is really good in the Language so i learn aton from him, and Mansell is just.... Mansell :) Hes an amazing missionary he works so hard, hes a great example to me. I think thats why president put me with him again, because he wants me to learn how to work really hard and be very very determined about my goals. Almost Obbsessed.
His Homecoming is on August 16, at the big white church by the Holgol Zoo. Hes not sure about the church but ill try and let you know more later. The Gassers is on the 9th of August, in Bountiful im not sure again which church.
Well i love you guys and thanks mom for the Love, My companions thank you too, I worked out a deal with mansell, since were not allowed to go to a Massage place, for 2 oreos he gives me a 5min massage. I think its worth it...

Happy Fathers day! I have the Best Parents ever!!!! Thanks for all the stuff, care packages!!!! You guys are awesome!
K this is crazy so us the Elders ran to the other elders apartment to do a super work out and then we did our studies there. But mainly so that we could all be together when we got transfer calls. So they came really early in the morning and Brockman Answered it. So Szabó is getting Apgood, My mtc district buddy, And haha your not going to beleive this, I am going to Pest In a 3some companionship with Mansell And Lynn Elder, Haha wow im so excited. Lynn was my Ősi, The older Hungarian elder, In the MTC so this is going to be way tight! BUt im going to "kill" be the last companion of Mansell's. Ahh im so excited, I really sad to be leaving here because finally all of our hard work is finally showing but now im leaving it all for apgood haha oh well the work is going pretty good in Pest so thats good. WEll now i will have served in the 2 largest City's in Hungary! Not what i was expecting.
So This week was pretty good we had alot of good bye programs with Ági and Zitus, Ági left for america on Saturday, Then we finally were able to meet with Krisztina Néni, She is the Coolest Néni ever, She fed us so much food. ahh it was so good then we taught her about Temples and that was good. Oh but the coolest thing ever is we went on Saturday To Zsoka's Garden House, She is our landlord and a very faithful Angol Óra, English Class, Student. haha but wow we went out into the country way back into the trees and fields and Her family has this little House with a big garden around it. We picked Sweet Cherries, little red things, little green things, little purple things and raspberries. They all tasted good but i dont know what some of them are called. I have never seen them in america. Then we went inside and ate dinner with them and the sisters were there. ohh it was so cool, i loved going out there, I want to serve in a place like that so bad, but that wont be for awhile But the city will be fun im excited.
Well it was hard saying goodbye to people and there is this family The Szabóék and they have these little kids that i can never understand but i played blocks and puzzles with them at there house and now they love me. But the little girl kept giving me hugs at church and she cried when i left, ha wow that was kinda hard to see. I love these people a ton they are so neat. I am going to try and put some pictures on so i hope that they get to you. Thanks for everything and the packages!

Blakes Letter 6/15/09
Wow sorry about last week, yes we were busy but what happened is that i spent most of my emailing time writing you guys but then the ldsmail log you out after 20min but lets you stil type. Then i went to send it and it told me that i needed to log back in so i did and it erased the whole email ugh... i was way mad, then i hurry and typed you a short version and sent it but it sent it back to me for some weird reason so sorry there was no letter last week. ill try and find it and send it to you again.
Well this week has been awesome. there is so much i want to talk about but this is the coolest thing EVER!!!! So there is this guy that is about 55 and he was baptized in 91' but went in-active in about 94' and has had a hard time. He has been really depressed since then and was totally miserable. Then with Mansell we streeted him one night and had to pull his teeth to get him to talk with us. Then over the past 4months we have met with him about every week and he seemed to be getting not so depressed every time. Then just 2 weeks ago i gave him a new book of mormon and told him that he had to read out of it every day, because it will make him feel happy, it took about 15min to get him to accept the commitment, So then this last week we met with him and he was the happiest man in hungary. The first thing he said to me is that he read every single night before studying for court cases (hes a lawyer) and ever since then he has been progressing in court cases and he finally won a case that has beengoing for 15years. Ahhhh its so awesome to see the power of the Book Of Mormon, how it really affects your life. This guy is awesome! He speaks english pretty good too so its easy to have programs with him.
So that is my awesome spiritual story for Debrecen, We are getting transfere calls next monday and i am pretty sure im leaving here. Also Ági, she is one of the young women here, is leaving i don't know if i have talked about her much but she is awesome!!!! She is 22 now and speaks fluent english and Hungarian, She is leaving for america on friday to go to a scout camp thing for 2 months then she is going to Germany to live with a family and take care of the kids for a year. She has been a huge help to the missionaries and is one of the strongest members i have ever met. Wow its really sad to see her leave because this branch is going to struggle without her. But i think its good too because this week the members realized she is leaving and know that they need to start picking it up. WEll im doing good and i love you guys and thanks for the email about ashlee and libby she is cute :) i bet bridger is pretty excited!
WEll love you guys alot and thanks for everything!!!!!

From Blakes Letter June 1st
Shoot well guess?! what on wednesday it will be my 6 month mark on my mission, Wow this is going way too fast.I get so busy planning and setting up programs and stuff i forget where time goes and these weeks go soo soo fast. Wow
So this week here we had interveiws, splits, lots of meetings (with the branch), and a Kirándalás (its like a pic-nic type thing) so its been a very busy week, we didn't have any success streeting or tracting, and everysingle program we had dogged us except 1, and that one was way cool. so it made up for all the dogs. So my companion wonders why i am studying these words like Welding, machining, weird car parts and stuff but that guy we met with is a welder, locksmith, and works on cars. So i can understand more of what he is saying than my companion can haha but during the lesson the spirit was so stronge. He doesn't beleive in God and he feels like praying is pointless but when we asked him to pray and read, right off he said he would because "he feels something" YES i love this church!!!!!
WEll i love you guys alot and thanks for everything especially your prayers, i can really feel them!!!

From Blakes Letter Monday May 25th
So this week was interesting. We ended up getting dogged at about all of our programs but we ended up haveing alot of just random programs that were really neat. Like on tuesday and wednesday we ended up having programs with these girls that are going to college here. Haha we taught them right infront of the Nagy Templom, The Reformatus temple, which is our biggest enemy :). But the programs went pretty good. then we found these 2 really awesome guys that live way out in the country and they are just awesome. im really excited about them.
The Debrecen branch is still really struggling this week was very hard at church and the members that are active are really starting to show that its really hard for them. So if you could pray for our branch to stick together that would help alot!!!!!
So we made it a goal to baptize challenge one person a day on the street! we did get an investigator out of it so thats awesome but wow its really tough just walking up to somebody and telling them who we are and then asking them to be baptized. I've always wondered what their perspective of it is, having 2 (handsom :D) young men walk up to them and then ask them to get baptized.
So thats it this week just working trying to keep things together.

Hi family
So this whole last week we have been preparing for an open house we had on saturday at the branch house, Biggest wast of time ever, and then a koncert that the mission put on during sacrament meeting. So last week was very tiring, long and stressing. The open house we got 1 person to come in after 14hrs of working. But then on sunday we had the koncert and there were almost 70 people in church!!!! Wow that chaple looked so good with that many people in it. The koncert was a Restoration koncert and it was way awesome!!! im hoping our branch members will start realizing that they need to help us if they want this church to grow. Thats the hardest thing right now is that nobody wants to do anything to help us so its tough.
So we found these 2 guys from Samolia and they a really interested in finding out about the christian world. They are muslim and they grew up in samolia but its a huge war zone over there so they came here to survive. The one guy Joseph has 3 brothers 1 sister that he hasnt seen since they left Samolia, he knows one is in Finnland, 3 are somewhere in America and he is in Hungary. Man this guy has been through alot and his parents were killed right in front of him. They have never read anything about Christians and the first Christians they "ran into" was us, the mormons. So im hoping that this goes well.
Wow its hard right now it seems like everthing is falling apart over here. A few of our investigators are just on a friend basis now they arn't that interested in the church anymore, our young womens president wants to leave the church because she feels like the church is holding her back from being with her boyfriend, The elders qourom president started smoking again. Freak nobody wants to even bless or pass the sacrament any more. Thats my new calling in the church is to organize that sacrament and get it prepared so that its ready when the meeting starts. Wow i didn't think it would be this tough. haha
WEll the koncert went good so im hoping that it will really kick some people in the back and that they will realize that this is where true Happiness is.
Im so glad we have the Gospel in our lives!!! Its so amazing to see how it blesses those that really obey the commandments and Excercise their faith in Jesus Christ.
Mom i hate to tell ya but your probly not going to be getting any of those pictures you wanted for along time. So yesterday this Szigany, Gypsy, guy comes into the church and he heard that we would give him money. So he goes and talkes to Msis, the branch president, and misi told him that we can't just give money to him but we can give some service to him and help his family find a job. But he didn't want that answer so somehow in the middle of everything he stole TONS of stuff inlcuding like 4 cameras (one of them was mine) some stereo stuff and i don't know what else. He pretty much cleaned out my backpack with stuff. The good news is that Misi is a lawyer and has alot of his information from when he was talking with him, a few of the sisters investigators that were there know the guy and so we might find him. FReak all i want is the memory cards back cause all my pictures so far were in them.
But just letting you know you probly wont be getting any pictures for along time. I got the insurance on my camera if you wouldn't mind going to inkleys and seeing if we can't get any thing covered, but i don't think it covers "Szigany" theft. :)

Pictures & Mother's Day Call

We all got to talk to Blake on Mother's Day. Thank to technology Brook & Jen, Reed & Melinda and kids were all on phones in WY. and Stuart, Carol, Nate & Madalyn, Ashlee and McKenzie were all on the speaker phone in Utah. It was so nice to hear his voice and the joy that he is having on his mission. Blake is really feeling the spirit and getting along well with the language. He told us all about the people that he has made friends with. He made us all hungry with the food and goodies that he talked about. He wants all to know that he is loving his mission and that time is going by to fast. These are some pictures he sent home in his email this Monday. I am not sure what all the pictures are at this time. But it looks like fun. One more thing he says that he is gainging weight. So i think that is a good thing. The one thing that he told us in his letter on Monday is that he is growing a mandrin orange tree.

I found my long lost Hungarian Redneck Relative!!!!!!!!!!!! haha he lives in this little town outside of Debrecen calle Hajdúböszörmeny and we went and had a Szalona Sötés i have no idea how to translate that into english but all you do is get this huge piece of Pig fat and slightly roast it over a fire and then drip the fat onto a piece of Delicious Hungarian bread coverd with onions, peppers, cucumbers, and ohhhhh man its good. i didn't have my camera with me but ill try to get some pictures next time were out there. But anyways this guy is the biggest redneck ever. we get there and he's working on his tractor then he shows us his airplane that he built haha its in this old garage thing. He said he'd take me up and let me fly it but i told him that its not allowed right now but in about 2 years id come back and we would do it for sure!!!!!!!! haha also we just talked about working on cars and engines and guns. I realized as i was talking about building car engines and Guns In Hungarian that i AM ACTUALLY learning this language.

Hi Family March 23rd
So this last week has been really different for me out here.
It was one of those really tough weeks.
Out of 26 programs scheduled only 5 of them meet with us.
We had 2 new investigators and they both dropped us and
said they didn't want to meet any more. So its been tough
but we did find this guy who lives about kiddie corner-ish
to our building and he was really interested so we did get
a new investigator.
My first transfer is almost over already.
I am doing good.

So ya there's rednecks in Hungary too!!!
So ya there's rednecks in Hungary too!!! So on monday
after the Horotbágy we went to Misi's house, the
branch president, and taught him and his 2 sons
Ricsi and Roli about the priesthood. Ricsi just got
ordained a deacon and he is way excited about that so
that was fun. After that we left and decided
to just walk home, just the elders. As we were going
through this park-ish place we saw these 3 guys standing
up ahead with a bike that had some big box thing
hanging on the side of it. One of the guys came up to us,
more like stumbled up to us, totally wasted and asked us
if we would buy them beer because its his birthday and
everybody drinks on there birthday. Haha it was really
funny listening to a drunk guy speak hungarian and english
at the same time. Anyways we told him no and started walking
away towards the other guys and as we passed them i realized
that it was a fridge strapped to the side of a bike so that
they could push it around and still keep there drinks cold.
Haha Dang i couldn't stop laughing because it made me
realize that Corey and I probly would have done the
same thing.
Sunday we celebrated the Independence from turkey and they
have a big celebration at the Nagy Templom,Big Temple

the night at the mission home with the Gaussers and
then that next morning were told where we were going

Elder Mansell is my companion and he's way fun,
a great trainer, and im in Debrecen.
I love it here this pastweek has been always sunny
and really cold though. I love it here it only
took about that first day to get adjusted but even
then i was pretty well with it.
Im still a bit tired but thats mainly from just the everday

Arrived Safe

Elder Smith arrived in Hungray February 17th, 2009,
That evening he enjoyed dinner prepared by Sister Gasser with all the
new missionaries in the mission home and later a few minutes of
sight-seeing in the beautiful city of Budapest after dark.
Elder Smith arrived with a wonderful spirit and a sincere desire to
serve and teach the people of Hungary.

OFF TO Hungray
Hello Everyone,
Keep a prayer in your hearts Monday for Elder Blake Smith, as he will be flying to Hungary! He is so anxious to get there! I think the language is coming well, but it will be a complete shock when he gets there and wonders what language they are speaking!!! I'm sure he will feel a little inadequate for awhile, but I know the spirit will direct him, he has a great attitude! Drive by our house, our Hungarian flag will be flying! Love, Carol
